Why I Upgraded to Holy Fire® Master – And What Changed
When I became a Usui Reiki Master, I thought I’d arrived somewhere. Over a decade of training, hundreds of students, Reiki woven into every part of my life and work. I knew the symbols, the attunements, the lineage. I was confident in what I was doing and why.
Then Holy Fire came into my awareness. And I ignored it for a long time.
The Resistance
Experienced practitioners are often the hardest people to move. You’ve built something. You have a framework that works, a teaching approach you trust, students who rely on you. The idea that there might be something else – not just a technique to add, but a qualitative shift in the energy itself – is uncomfortable. It asks you to hold your certainty a little more loosely.
That discomfort is worth paying attention to. It’s usually pointing at something real.
What finally shifted my thinking wasn’t anyone’s persuasion. It was noticing, quietly and over time, that the energy in my practice had a ceiling. I was competent. I was consistent. But something felt like it had plateaued.
What Holy Fire Actually Is
The distinction that matters most, practically, is this: in traditional Usui Reiki, the attunement passes through the teacher. The teacher’s own energy field is part of the transmission. In Holy Fire, the Ignitions come directly from Source to the student’s spirit. The teacher holds the space and guides the process but isn’t the conduit.
This isn’t a marketing claim. It’s a structural difference in how the energy moves – and it has real implications. The transmission doesn’t carry the teacher’s limitations, preferences, or energetic patterns. What the student receives is unfiltered.
When I received my first Holy Fire Ignition, the difference was immediately perceptible. The energy was cleaner, more specific, and continued working for days afterward in a way that felt autonomous – as though it knew what needed attention without being directed. Old patterns surfacing and releasing. A sense of recalibration that happened in the background of ordinary life.
How It Changed My Teaching
Moving from Usui Master to Holy Fire Master didn’t discard what I’d built. The Usui foundation is still there and still matters – the lineage, the principles, the discipline of practice. Holy Fire actually returned it to its original potency.
The most significant shift was in how my students experience training. The healing experiences we work through together go further than anything I offered before. Students describe shifts that feel less like learning a skill and more like being recalibrated from the inside. That’s not language I would have used before. Now it’s the most accurate description I have.
My own practice also changed. Reiki moved from something I do to something I am – not as a spiritual platitude, but as a functional description of how the energy sits in my daily life. It stopped feeling like a tool I pick up and put down.
Who the Upgrade Is For
Not every Usui Master needs to upgrade. But some practitioners reach a point where the question isn’t whether to go deeper, but when. If your practice feels like it has a ceiling. If you’re teaching and sense that what you’re transmitting has a quality you can’t quite explain or expand. If you’ve been hearing about Holy Fire and something keeps pulling your attention back to it.
That pull is information. It usually arrives before the reasons do.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Holy Fire® Master upgrade?
A Holy Fire Master upgrade is training for qualified Usui Reiki Masters who want to add Holy Fire to their practice and teaching. It doesn’t replace Usui training – it builds on it. After the upgrade, practitioners can offer Holy Fire Ignitions and Healing Experiences to their students rather than traditional Usui attunements.
Do I need to redo all my Reiki training to become a Holy Fire Master?
No. If you hold Usui Reiki Master Teacher level, you can move to Holy Fire Master through the master programme. You don’t need to repeat Levels 1 or 2.
What’s the difference between a Holy Fire Ignition and a Usui attunement?
In a Usui attunement, the energy is passed through the teacher – the teacher acts as a conduit. In a Holy Fire Ignition, the energy comes directly from Source to the student. The teacher holds space and guides the process but isn’t the channel. This means the transmission isn’t filtered through another person’s energy field.
How long does it take to feel the effects of Holy Fire?
Many people notice a difference during or immediately after the first Ignition. The energy also continues to work in the background after training ends, which is a distinctive feature of Holy Fire – it isn’t static. People typically report ongoing shifts over the weeks following training as the energy continues to integrate.
Is Holy Fire Reiki recognised by professional bodies?
Holy Fire Reiki is part of the Usui lineage and is taught through the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). ICRT certification is widely recognised. In the UK, the UK Reiki Federation recognises Holy Fire training for registration purposes.
