Is it OK to learn Reiki online?

With the current global situation causing disruption and upheaval for so many people, it is definitely time to look for new ways of doing things. Traditionally, Reiki is taught in person, from Master to Student. In recent years there has been an influx of online training options. This is where discernment is key. There are so many cheap options out there but you really do get what you pay for – and you need to be careful when choosing an online Reiki course.

Reiki – online vs face to face learning

I have always taught Reiki in person at face to face classes. But with the on-going lockdowns, I had to consider moving the training online. On Saturday I took a lovely group of students through their Level 1 Reiki training. It was a beautiful day and the energy was amazing, particularly during the distance attunement section.

As a registered Reiki Teacher with the Reiki Guild, one of the UK’s largest Reiki professional bodies, I have a duty to my students. I am obliged to provide high quality and effective training – and to provide in person attunements with all students. So, how can I honour this while carrying out online training?

The Reiki attunement issue

I thought long and hard about this. In fact, it was this issue that prevented me from considering online Reiki training for so long. What could I do?

The more I sat with it and meditated on it, the more I realised that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. Usui himself received the first energetic attunement while on the mountain with nobody else present. Energy and attunements are not bound by time or space. We teach this as part of Level 2 training with distance healing work. Anyone who has had a good distance healing session knows this. They will tell you that it is just as effective as in person healing. I have also experimented with trying out distance attunements myself in other energetic healing therapies. Personally, I found them more powerful than any I have had in person.

I still needed to be able to offer in person attunement though. Then it came to me – the training could be done live, in person via a platform like Zoom. The attunement would be carried out over distance but live during the call. The students would then be able to work with Reiki while staying at home during lockdown. Then when restrictions lift, could come and see me in person. I could offer a top up in person attunement as part of a free Reiki session, included in their training. This would work. It would allow the student to begin their healing journey. And they benefit from an extra free Reiki session and second attunement, in person. This would satisfy any professional bodies in due course and I can honour my obligation as a registered teacher.

Quality, effective online learning

You see, some of the cheaper online Reiki training options out there do not offer this type of training. They give you videos and worksheet downloads and then get you to book a time for your distance attunement. You rarely get any direct contact from the teacher. I don’t believe this is an effective way to learn Reiki – and this would certainly not be accepted for anyone wanting to register with a professional body.

It is important to me, to be able to offer the highest quality Reiki training that I can. At all levels – not just Level 1. I also feel that this time in our lives is significant. So many people are awakening to their spiritual potential and are turning to Reiki. It is necessary to be able to offer quality, effective training to those who want it. We cannot let the global pandemic and ongoing lockdowns stop us from learning and growing together.

This is why I am now offering Reiki training online – but in this very controlled manner. All my online classes will be live, not recorded. I will keep groups small in number, to ensure everyone gets the attention and training they need. The distance attunements will be carried out live during the class and an in person top up will be made available once students are able to come and see me in person.

Benefits of online learning with me

Not everyone will want online training and that is absolutely fine. I totally understand and get that but let me list a few benefits of learning online with me over the coming weeks –

1. You get quality and effective training live with me as your Reiki Master from the comfort of your own home.
2. You have the ability to begin self treating and working through your 21 day healing period while we navigate through this lockdown period.
3. For those doing Level 2 training, you can practise distance healing sessions. This means you can add this to your existing list of services if you are running a therapy business – definitely a good way of keeping your business alive during this pandemic.
4. You can dedicate time to really tuning in to the healing energy and use this lockdown period to connect deeply with the Reiki symbols and healing energy.
5. You get to have a free in person Reiki session and top up attunement, with your certificate updated to satisfy professional bodies in due course when restrictions lift.

It is extremely likely that in person classes will not be available until the Summer of 2021 – but even then it is not guaranteed. None of us know how long this pandemic is going to cause disruption for. But we can take control of the healing energy in our lives. You can learn Reiki or move forward on your healing journey and progress to Level 2 or beyond. Re-commit to your healing, be able to offer distance healing sessions, and lean into your meditative practice to help boost your health and wellness in the coming weeks.

Upcoming training dates

I will be offering another Level 1 Reiki class online on 20th March 2021. There will also be a Level 2 Reiki class on 20th February 2021.

Let me tell you a little bit more about what will be on offer in this upcoming Level 2 class –

We will meet together via Zoom – a live class, not recorded. Together we will open sacred space and do a short Reiki meditation together to connect in with each other. We will do a brief recap on the principles and the Level 1 teachings before moving on to learning the sacred Reiki symbols. I will provide a guided meditation for each of the symbols for you to use at home after the class during your 21 day healing process. We will have the distance attunement carried out together and then break for lunch.

After lunch, we will practice distance healing techniques together and learn the sacred art of Hatsurei Ho – the jewel in Reiki’s crown. You will receive a detailed manual by email and your certificate will be emailed to you after the class. Once restrictions lift, you can then book an appointment with me. I will see you in person, one to one, and redo your attunement in person. Your certificate will be re-issued to reflect this in person attunement and you will receive a hard copy of it at your free session with me. You get all this, plus ongoing support from me as your Reiki Master and support from the Reiki School Facebook group.

This online class, with the additional bonuses of an in person Reiki session and guided meditation recordings, is £150. The same price as the in person class. To secure your place a £50 deposit is required, with the £100 balance payable before the day of the class.
