Autumn Wellness – 7 Tips to Keep you Healthy

It is most definitely Autumn! You can certainly feel the nip in the air can’t you? I absolutely love this time of year. But the transition to the shorter days of autumn can be a challenge. Autumn means cooler air, less daylight and shorter days. That’s why this is when we need to be especially mindful about our self-care rituals! If you are looking for some tips, here are seven simple ways to maintain wellness during this autumn season:

Nourish with Autumnal Foods

This is the time to warm our bodies with organic soups and seasonal vegetables like butternut squash, pumpkin, roots and dark leafy greens. Mother Nature provides all the ingredients we need to nourish our bodies during the cooler months. Why not make a nourishing curry using your own blend of warming spices? Ginger and Turmeric are 2 wonderful spices to add to your recipes this month.

Boost your Immune System

Your immune system needs support during the seasonal transition into autumn. Especially because of the current situation and anxiety that is out there. You can do this by drinking plenty of water, washing your hands often, and eating nutritious foods such as broths and soups. Natural remedies and supplements may help you as well. Take a look at the wonderful range of herbal remedies and organic medicines at Neal’s Yard if this interests you. Keeping a positive mindset, avoiding fear-mongering and drawing your energy back into yourself will also help boost immunity.

Stay Active

It can be easy to just stay at home all the time over the cooler months, but it’s important to get in some movement throughout the day. Inactivity slows down our circulation and metabolism and weakens our immune system. So, make sure you keep your body moving and take advantage of the beautiful golden sunsets and stunning colours that this season presents. Walking in crisp leaves on a cool day also means you can come home and have a lovely hot chocolate – right?

Sleep with the Cycles of Nature

Days are shortening and nature suggests us to nourish ourselves, slow down and get some quality sleep. Consider incorporating herbs, tea or natural remedies into your sleep practices to improve the quality of your sleep but also the one of your waking hours! Try using Qi Gong instead of extra caffeine for your morning energy boost. Drink some bright start tea and maybe invest in a sunrise alarm clock.

Be Kind to Yourself

After the craziness of this year, our bodies are naturally slowing down. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. Learn to manage stress and try to find a moment of peace each day: just brew a relaxing cup of tea, practice meditation or soak in a bath full of gorgeous organic products. Maybe even book yourself a healing Reiki session or give yourself permission to simply rest.

Moisturise Your Skin and Hands

Cooler temperatures can make your skin dry. Choose carefully your skincare rituals: use organic and natural skincare products and nourish your skin every day. And don’t forget to drink more water! I know our hands have taken a battering this year. With all the sanitiser and extra scrubbing – they may feel chapped and sore. I tried a new product on mine the other day. The new hand serum from the Neal’s Yard Frankincense range is simply stunning. It turns your hand care into a mindful routine – just bliss!

Take Vitamin D

We get most of our Vitamin D from the sun, so our intake decreases when the days are shorter and the weather is colder. If you find you are not getting outside much, a Vitamin D natural supplement can boost your mood and immune system. As always, read the instructions carefully and be careful when adding supplements to your diet. If in doubt, consult your local health food shop or medical provider to check for any contraindications.

I hope these tips will help in some small way. Remember I am here to help support you in any way I can. Do reach out if you need any advice, support or help during the coming months.

Enjoy the full beauty of autumn and take care of yourself.

Much love,
Debi
